This is what a woman wants...
Any man of mine better be proud of me
Even when I'm ugly he still better love me
And I can be late for a date that's fine
But he better be on time
Any man of mine'll say it fits just right
When last year's dress is just a little too tight
And anything I do or say better be okay
When I have a bad hair day
And if I change my mind
A million times
I wanna hear him say
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I like it that way
Any man of mine better walk the line
Better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda time
I need a man who knows, how the story goes
He's gotta be a heartbeatin' fine treatin'
Breathtakin' earthquakin' kind
Any man of mine
Well any man of mine better disagree
When I say another woman's lookin' better than me
And when I cook him dinner and I burn it black
He better say, mmmm, I like it like that yeah
And if I changed my mind
A million times
I wanna hear him say
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I like it that way
Any man of mine better walk the line
Better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda time
I need a man who knows, how the story goes
He's gotta be a heartbeatin' fine treatin'
Breathtakin' earthquakin' kind
Any man of mine
Let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I like it that way
Any man of mine better walk the line
Better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda time
I need a man who knows, how the story goes
He's gotta be a heartbeatin' fine treatin'
Breathtakin' earthquakin' kind
Any man of mine
You gotta shimmy shake
Make the earth quake
Kick, turn, stomp, stomp, then you jump
Heel to toe, Do Si Do
'Til your boots wanna break
"Til your feet and your back ache
Keep it movin' 'til you just can't take anymore
Come on everybody on the floor
A-one two, a-three four
Hup two, hum
If you wanna be a man of mine, that's right
This is what a woman wants...
So you might be wondering why I have the lyrics to a Shania Twain song on my blog, and this one especially! When I am outside working on different things around the house I usually grab my mp3 player and play music - usually, "Random Play All" - while I work. But another thing I find myself doing when I work is thinking. Yes I have music playing in my ears, yes my mind, subconsciously, is soaking it up when I'm not really paying attention, but when I listen to music I think.
To be perfectly honest I'm not really sure why this song is even on my mp3 player, but it is, or was rather, b/c I'm taking it off. But when I listened to this song it kinda suddenly hit me what it was really saying. I've listened to it before, as per usual, not really paying a lot of attention and enjoying the beat. That's not always good!!!!!
But what hit me was the message of this song. Boiled all down, she cares about nothing but herself. She wants a guy who would lie, who would be at her beck and call, meet a standard that she herself doesn't have to meet, approve of immodesty....the list goes on.
My mind started turning....how wrong this is! Why am I listening to this? Why do I own this? What???? Was that really just said??
Then these thoughts started going through my mind. How easy it is for world views to be subtly pushed into something as seemingly harmless as a song. How many people listen to that song. How many grin and think it's kinda funny.
We have to be so careful what we are filling our lives with. Our subconscious is a very powerful thing! We need to stop and THINK about what we are subconsciously doing.
I challenge everyone to consciously listen to music, watch TV, read books, etc.
Thank you so much for this. Very humbling, I must admit - I don't think I paid as much attention as I SHOULD have until my kids came along. Good for you for standing up for our LORD early in life!
ReplyDeleteWhat?! A post?! I've been waiting for this soooo long! =D And a very good one, too. Sometimes I think we can be tempted into getting complacent because "WE have clearplay" or "WE don't watch ________ or _______" like most people do. But you're right - we need to really actively think about what goes into our minds! Thanks, Anna. Love you. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of you! You have a wonderful point and we've talked about this a lot...thanks for posting. You make me really think! I love you, dear! :)
